A position is a slot in your agency's organizational chart. It defines what the role is, where it is based, and what kind of employment it represents. You fill positions by assigning personnel to them.

Creating a new position

  1. Click Personnel in the menu and open the Positions tab.
  2. Click New Position.
  3. Fill in the form:
  • Position Title — a descriptive title, like "Engine Operator — Station 3" or "EMS Supervisor — B Shift."
  • Code — an optional short internal code, like "EO-S3."
  • Capability — pick from your agency's capabilities list, or use Add Capability to create a new one inline.
  • Station / Unit, Division, Shift Label, Schedule Pattern — free-text fields that describe where and when the position works.
  • FTE Type — free-text, for example Full-time, Part-time, or PRN.
  • Status — Open, Filled, or On Hold. Defaults to Open.
  • Visible on Job Board — turn this on to let employees bid on the posting from the Job Board tab.
  • Description — optional longer description of the role.

Editing a position

Open the row action menu on a position and click Edit. Changes take effect immediately.

Statuses

Positions have three statuses:

  • Open — no one is assigned. These are the positions that can appear on the job board if Visible on Job Board is on.
  • Filled — a person is assigned as the occupant.
  • On Hold — the position is not being filled right now.

Example

Your agency adds a third ambulance to Station 1 and needs two new paramedic slots. You click New Position, name it "Paramedic — Station 1 — A Shift," pick ALS as the capability, fill in Station 1 and the shift label, set FTE Type to Full-time, leave Status as Open, and turn on Visible on Job Board. The position appears on the list and in the employee Job Board, ready for bids.
