When this step appears

This step appears when your incident involves an emerging-hazard incident type -- electrification, solar energy systems, or corrugated stainless steel gas piping (CSST). These are considered emerging hazards because they present risks that traditional firefighting training may not fully address.

Electrification Category

Pick the category of electrification hazard from the dropdown (for example, Consumer Products, Energy Storage System, E-Mobility, or Electric Vehicle). Leave it at N/A if this incident was not an electrification hazard.

Power Generation Hardware

Pick the power generation hardware involved (covers photovoltaic / solar incidents). Leave it at N/A if no power generation hardware was involved.

Reignition and CSST

Check Reignition occurred if the hazard reignited after initial suppression (common with lithium-ion battery fires). For gas-piping calls, check CSST -- Lightning strike if lightning was involved and CSST -- Properly grounded if the piping was grounded correctly.

Example

You respond to a garage fire and discover that an electric vehicle battery caught fire while charging. Under Electrification Category you pick the matching Electric Vehicle entry from the list. The battery flared up again 20 minutes after knockdown, so you also check Reignition occurred.

Tip: Emerging hazard data is especially valuable for the fire service because it helps track trends in new technology-related incidents. Fill in as much detail as you can.
