A finding is a single item the inspector noted on the inspection. Some findings are violations of a code. Others are observations or recommendations. Each finding gets its own row, with as much or as little detail as the inspector wants to capture.

Step by step

  1. Open the inspection.
  2. Click Add Finding.
  3. Fill in the form.
  4. Click Save.

The fields

  • Code -- Start typing an IFC or NFPA section and Fire suggests matching codes from the code library. Pick a suggestion or type your own.
  • Severity -- Critical, Major, Minor, or Observation. Critical means life-safety risk that needs immediate attention. Observation means worth noting but not a violation.
  • Description -- What the inspector saw. Be specific: extension cord powering a microwave in the suite 204 break room beats extension cord.
  • Location -- Where in the building the issue was found. Example: second floor, mechanical room, north wall.
  • Photos -- Upload one or more photos. Toggle Include in Report on for any photo that should appear on the PDF the owner receives.

Finding status

Every finding starts with the status Open. As corrections are made, you change the status to:

  • Resolved -- The issue was corrected.
  • Waived -- The issue was reviewed and the inspector decided not to require a correction. Add a resolution note explaining why.

When you mark a finding resolved or waived, Fire stamps the time and records who closed it.

Examples

A blocked exit. Severity is Critical, code is the local egress section, description is storage stacked against the east emergency exit door, blocking egress in suite 110, location is suite 110, east exit, with a photo flagged for the report.

An expired extinguisher tag. Severity is Minor, code is the IFC section on portable extinguisher inspection, description is tag expired 14 months ago, no annual service tag attached, location is kitchen, west wall.
