If you only have a handful of properties to add, the fastest path is to enter them one at a time. For a full district roster, use the CSV import instead.

Step by step

  1. From the menu, click Properties.
  2. Click New Property.
  3. Fill in the address fields. The address can be typed in or selected from the address suggestion list.
  4. Fill in any other details you have on hand.
  5. Click Save.

The fields that matter most

You do not need to fill in everything at once. The fields below pay off the most when a crew is rolling in:

  • Address -- Street, city, state, ZIP. As you type, the address suggestion list helps you find the right parcel.
  • Latitude and Longitude -- The coordinates of the property. These place it on the map.
  • NERIS Location Use -- The classification of how the property is used (commercial, residential, healthcare, school, and so on). Used on incident reports later.
  • Knox Box Location, FDC Location, Sprinkler Room Location, Alarm Panel Location, Gas Shutoff Location, Electrical Panel Location -- Plain-language directions for each of these features.
  • Water Supply Info -- Which hydrants serve this property, on-site standpipes, internal supply.
  • Access Problems and Ventilation Problems -- Anything a crew should know in advance about getting in or getting smoke out.
  • Time Normally Occupied -- The hours people are likely on site. Crucial for life-safety size-up.
  • Hazmat Present -- Flag this if the property has hazardous materials on site. List the chemicals on the Chemicals tab.
  • Critical Infrastructure -- Flag this if losing the property would have major community impact.
Tip: Fill in the utility shutoff fields even if you only know the rough location. Sprinkler room on the south wall, just inside the door is much better than nothing when the building is full of smoke.
