What this report shows
The drug usage log lists every drug replacement that happened during a checkout. Each entry shows what was removed, what was put in its place, and the details of both items.
How to access it
Go to Reporting from the menu and select Drug Usage Log. This section is only available to admins.
What each entry includes
For every replacement, you will see two sides:
- Removed item — the drug name, lot number, expiry date, and barcode of the item taken out.
- Replacement item — the drug name, lot number, expiry date, and barcode of the item put in.
You also see which checkout it was part of, who did it, and when.
Why this is different from the controlled substance log
The controlled substance log tracks all transaction types for controlled drugs. The drug usage log focuses specifically on replacements during checkouts and includes all drugs — not just controlled substances. It is the best place to look when you want to answer the question: "What was swapped out and why?"
Example
You want to know how much Epinephrine was used across all units last week. You open the drug usage log and filter by drug (Epinephrine) and date range (last 7 days). The log shows 12 replacements — 8 for expired stock and 4 for doses administered on calls. Each entry shows the old lot number and the new one, so you can trace every vial.
Tip
If you notice a pattern of the same drug being replaced frequently at the same location, it may be worth adjusting the par level or checking whether that unit is using more than expected.
