The Time Off Balances card shows how much time off you have earned, how much is pending approval, and how much is still available to use.

What each balance row shows

For each time-off type, the card lists three numbers:

  • The main number on the right is your available hours -- current balance minus hours already committed to pending requests.
  • Current -- the total hours you have accrued in this category, before any requests are subtracted.
  • Pending -- hours from requests you have submitted that have not been approved or denied yet.

Under the list, a Net Hours line sums your available hours across every type.

Time-off types

Your agency decides which types show up -- for example, vacation, sick leave, personal time, or comp time. Each type has its own row on the balances card with its own set of numbers.

Example

Say you have 120 hours of vacation time accrued. You submitted a request for 24 hours that has not been reviewed yet. Your balances would show:

  • Vacation: 96.00 hrs (the main number)
  • Current: 120.00
  • Pending: 24.00

If you want to submit another request, you have 96 hours to work with.

How accruals work

Many agencies use accrual policies, which means you earn time-off hours gradually over time rather than getting them all at once. For example, you might accrue 4 hours of vacation per pay period. Your current balance grows automatically as each pay period passes.
