You can start an inspection two ways. Either from the Inspections list, picking the property as you go, or from inside a property record. Both end up at the same screen.

From the Inspections list

  1. From the menu, click Inspections.
  2. Click New Inspection.
  3. Type part of the property name or address in the search box and pick the right property.
  4. Fill in the inspection details (see below).
  5. Click Save.

From a property record

  1. Open the property.
  2. Click the Inspections tab.
  3. Click New Inspection.
  4. Fill in the inspection details.
  5. Click Save.

The inspection details

  • Type -- Pick from the list of inspection types your agency uses (annual, business license, complaint, follow-up, and any types your agency has added).
  • Building -- If the property has more than one building and this inspection is only for one of them, pick the building. Leave it blank if the inspection covers the whole property.
  • Inspector -- The person who will perform the inspection. This can be reassigned later.
  • Scheduled Date -- The day the inspection is planned for. Optional.
  • Notes -- Anything worth recording before the visit, like a contact name to ask for at the door.

What happens after you save

The inspection is created with the status Scheduled. When the inspector starts walking the building, the status changes to In Progress. See Inspection statuses for the full lifecycle.
