Where to start

You can create a new incident report from two places:

  • Click the New Incident button near the top of the NERIS dashboard.
  • Go to Incident Reports in the navigation and click New Incident Report.

What happens next

The system opens a multi-step form titled New Incident Report. The first step is always Incident Basics, where you pick the incident type. The form starts with today's date filled in and one blank unit response row ready to go.

You do not need to finish the entire report in one sitting. The form saves your progress automatically as you move between steps, and there is a Save Draft button at the bottom you can click at any time. You can close the browser and come back later. The report stays in Draft status until you send it for review.

Tip: gather your information first

Before you start, it helps to have your dispatch records, unit times, and any special details (fire investigation notes, patient info, hazmat data) nearby. The form will ask for specific times and details that are easier to enter if you are not searching for them mid-report.
