When an inspection has findings that need to be corrected, you create a follow-up. The follow-up carries the open findings forward and links each one back to the original. When the inspector marks a follow-up finding resolved, the original finding closes automatically.
Step by step
- Open the original inspection.
- Click Create Follow-Up.
- Pick the open findings to carry forward. By default all open findings are selected.
- Pick a scheduled date and an inspector. Leave the scheduled date blank if you plan to walk it immediately.
- Click Create.
Fire creates a new inspection linked to the original. The selected findings appear on the follow-up, each one with a link back to its parent finding.
Resolving findings on the follow-up
- Open the follow-up inspection.
- Click a finding to open it.
- Change the status to Resolved or Waived and add a resolution note.
- Save the finding.
The original finding on the parent inspection is closed at the same time, with the same resolution. The open-findings count on the dashboard updates as soon as you save.
Tips
- You can leave findings off the follow-up if the original inspector decided some items did not need re-inspection. Those original findings stay open and can be addressed separately.
- You can chain follow-ups -- create a follow-up to a follow-up if findings are still open. Fire tracks the chain through the parent-inspection link.
