If your tablet loses its internet connection while you are working on a PCR, CloudPCR keeps you going. You can finish documenting the call, and your work will sync to the server the moment you reconnect.

How CloudPCR knows you are offline

CloudPCR watches your tablet's connection status. The moment you lose the network, the save indicator at the top of the PCR changes to Offline in red. If you have made changes since going offline, the indicator also shows the count of saves waiting to go through — for example, Offline (3 queued).

What you can still do

  • Keep typing in any field on the page you are on.
  • Add vitals, medications, and procedures on the Timeline tab.
  • Capture signatures.
  • Attach documents you already have on your device.

Every change you make is saved on your tablet so it cannot be lost. CloudPCR uses your browser's built-in storage to hold the queue.

What you cannot do offline

The biggest one: you cannot move from one tab to another while you are offline. If you try, CloudPCR will show a notification that says "Page switching unavailable offline." Stay on the page you are on, finish what you are doing there, and the changes will queue up.

You also cannot:

  • Look up a patient who is not already cached on your tablet.
  • Search for a facility that is new to your agency.
  • Send the PCR to a hospital fax line.
  • Submit the PCR.

What happens when you reconnect

The moment your tablet gets internet back, CloudPCR starts pushing your queued changes to the server in the order you made them. The indicator changes to Syncing… and shows the count of changes still waiting. Once the queue is empty, the indicator goes back to Saved.

An example

You are inside a concrete-walled basement on a fall call. Your tablet drops the cellular signal as soon as you walk in. The indicator turns red and says Offline. You finish your assessment, take vitals, give 4 mg of ondansetron for nausea, and write a quick note in the narrative. The indicator now says Offline (12 queued). You carry the patient out to the truck, your signal comes back, and the indicator turns blue and says Syncing… and counts down: 12, 11, 10… 0. Then it turns green: Saved. Everything you did in the basement is on the server.

Important: Do not close your browser while the indicator says Offline or Syncing…. Wait until you see Saved so you know the queue is fully through. If you close it early, your queued changes are still safe on your tablet — they will sync next time you open the same PCR — but you will worry about it for nothing.
