If you need a new template that is similar to one you already have, you can duplicate it instead of building it from scratch. The copy includes all sections and items from the original.
How to duplicate
- From the menu, go to Templates.
- Find the template you want to copy.
- Click the duplicate option for that template.
- A new template is created as a draft, with all the sections and items from the original.
- Change the name and adjust anything that needs to be different.
- Publish when ready.
What gets copied
Everything in the template is copied: the name, description, all sections, all items, field types, help text, default values, and settings like required or optional. The copy is a completely independent template. Changes you make to the copy do not affect the original.
An example
Your agency has an "Engine Daily Check" template that works well. You just put a new rescue truck in service and it needs its own daily check. Most of the items are the same as the engine check, but the rescue has extra tool compartments and no pump panel. You duplicate the engine template. You rename the copy to "Rescue Daily Check." You delete the pump panel section and add a new section for the rescue tools. In five minutes you have a complete template instead of building forty items from scratch.
