A template has two states: Draft and Published. Drafts are only visible to administrators. Published templates appear on the dashboard so your crew can start sessions from them.
Draft
Every new template starts as a Draft. While a template is in Draft, only administrators can see it. Your crew cannot start sessions from it. Use this stage to build out the template, test it, and make changes.
Publishing
- Open the template you want to publish.
- In the Template Details section, change the Status dropdown from Draft to Published.
- Click Save Template.
- The template now appears on the dashboard for your crew.
Once a template is published, your crew can start new sessions from it right away.
Making changes after publishing
You can reopen a published template and edit it the same way you edit a draft. Each save creates a new version behind the scenes, so sessions that were already started keep pointing at the version they began on. New sessions pick up the latest published version.
An example
Your agency has been using an "Engine Daily Check" template for six months. Your chief wants to add a section for checking the thermal imaging camera. You open the template, add the new section and its items, leave the Status on Published, and click Save Template. From that moment on, all new sessions use the updated template. The sessions your crew completed this morning are unchanged and still reference the previous version.
Tip: Before making a major change to a published template, use the Preview Template button to walk through it yourself and make sure the new items make sense and the sections are in a logical order.
